Websites, Router Updates and Failures Oh My

Today, has been an interesting day to say the least. I dropped off my laundry to get laundered and I went out to lunch with my family at a really good BBQ joint where the food was awesome. Prior to going out and doing my errands and even after that I have been toiling around the computer trying to get one of the websites I manage up and running correctly.

About 3 weeks ago I did an upgrade for the forums software I use on the site and the upgrade went a bit wonky. At first I thought it was something small where I could just re-upload the files and get on with it. Boy was I wrong in that sense. 3 weeks, about 40 hours of working and I had to take my website down completely for the forums. I was going to roll back the site using an sql update but hosting service I use went from a free service to pay as you go service. So Stupid me, I made one of the cardinal rules of working with computers BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP.

For Now I have a open support ticket open with company who programs the forums. They found a bug within the software and opened a bug report. for now I am trying my best to get the site usable but I keep getting PHP Errors and other stupid things happening.  For example, I keep getting http 500 errors, or php method not defined.  Nothing I seem to try and do to fix this is working. So I just took the forums down for now until I get a response back from their tech support team.

I also upgraded my hosting account to the pro version which includes the backup software to backup all my accounts, databases, files and what not. I now have a dedicated IP Address and it allows my sites to run a bit faster since its a shared environment but the IP is dedicated  so bandwidth isn’t affected by the other sites that would share the IP so its a good thing.

Other than toiling on the website I upgraded the firmware on my bsd router. That was pretty painless except it took about 30 minutes to reboot but I guess when your working with a homemade router its something to expect. But I think it is time for me to go. I am tired and I need to be up at 6:00 AM to get ready for work. Night Everyone.
