RTA Update November 2016

The year 2016 is coming to an end. The past 11 months have been filled with many challenges. These challenges have been good and bad, hard and easy. It has made the year go by considerably fast and I believe the month of December will be no exception.  In November, I decided it is time to take a break from my studies and spend some time for much needed relaxation outside of work.

I am taking an approach many companies do when they plan network maintenance black out windows after Thanksgiving. This approach allows for IT teams not to do any maintenance, upgrades till the New Year as many employees take time off for the holidays and crews are usually staffed with the minimum amount possible.

With that said, I decided to take a break. Spend time with my family outside of work and just try to relax and unwind for the last month and a half of the year. Looking back at November, It was a normal and uneventful month. Besides being out sick for a couple days, I have been working hard. I even worked on Thanksgiving.

I applied for another Network Engineer job with Spectrum, formally Time Warner Cable. This position is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. I decided to expand my range of locations to apply for to broaden my horizons. Within days of applying I had a phone screening and within a week of that screening I had an interview.

Overall the interview went well and I won’t know if I got the position until the first or second week of January due to the holidays and vacation time scheduled by other employees. It is very interesting to see that many departments have this blackout window at the end of the year, which is understandable.

Now that December is here, it feels like the month is going fast. I can’t believe that were already a week into the month. It feels like Thanksgiving was only yesterday and that the end of the year is now here. I look forward to seeing what the New Year will bring; and I believe it will be filled with new and exciting challenges with more opportunities that 2016.

I know I will be accomplishing more in 2017 than in 2016 and that I will make it my mission to be successful as possible. I till take any hurdles that life throws at me and jump over them with gusto. With that said, I must get going. If I don’t write another entry for 2016. I wish everyone Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
