Happy Holidays – 2016
I would like to wish everyone the warmest and heartfelt seasons greetings and happy holidays. May your holidays be merry and bright.
The past twelve months have been a roller coaster mixed with emotions both good and bad. With hard work and determination, 2016 is closing out with a bang and 2017 is just eight crazy days away. With that said, I have some great news. Christmas arrived early for me. Last week, I accepted a job offer as a Network Engineer 2 for Spectrum communications.
My start date for the my new job is on January 6, 2017. I will be leaving my current role as a ADSS Rep within the NYC Tier 3 Department of Spectrum. For the past 9 years I have been in the same department starting out as a Tier 3 Tech Support agent, while moving up to my current role in 2011. Over the past 9 years, I have seen my fair share of change both with the company and with me.
I have worked hard over the past 3 years to obtain my Bachelors Degree in Network Engineering and Communications Management. Within that time frame I have worked feverishly studying, taking classes full-time online and working full-time. In between classes and work, I have taken extra classes offered through the SCTE to broaden my skill set from taking Wireless Networking, CCNP Networking and Digital Video classes.
Overall, this hard work and determination has paid over. I have had multiple interviews to advance and each time I gained insight to what Spectrum looks for in a network engineer. The feedback I received, I used to make educated decisions on what classes and skills I need to work towards. Discouraging as it was, I never gave up and I continued to apply and work towards my goals.
Looking back at the goals I have set for myself in my Career Path section of my Career portfolio. I have met my year one and year two goals. My year one goal was to graduate with my bachelors. Within one year of graduation my year two goal was to become a network engineer at Spectrum (formerly TWC) while obtaining my industry network certifications which I have achieved with my CCNP Route and Switch Exam passed and the T-shoot exam left to become CCNP Certified.
Overall, I am very happy. I have set goals and I have achieved them within a relatively short period of time. I am looking forward to starting my new Job as a Network Engineer. This coming year will be a busy year. In January, I will be starting my new job. The training will start right away and within three to five months my training should be completed and I will be relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina.
This is going to be a big move as I will be moving my parents from our house in New York down south to North Carolina. I feel this is an appropriate move for my career and I will be using this as the vessel to obtain valuable work experience while working towards my new goals I will be setting for myself once they are determined. At this time, I am still in shock as this feels surreal.
I will make sure I keep everyone posted on what is going on as I am aspiring to be an ever evolving professional in the Networking Industry. However, for now I must get going. There is much work to do and so little time to it and I want to get started as quickly as possible. But for now. Happy Holidays to every. May 2017 be warm and bright for everyone.
